Even the word "emergency" is misleading, as they're probably par for the course - like armed Police on British streets and yet another alert at a London railway station... Firstly, calling it a "security alert" when was just a small fire at the back of a shop that had already been put out[*] doesn't help with security - next time we hear "security alert", we're going to say "Yeah, right, like last time". Secondly, it's amazing that the staff couldn't be arsed to tell commuters what was going on, so we were all crushed together wondering if we're going to get blown up; yet as soon as my camera appears I get a lecture about how it's company policy that I can't take pictures without the station manager's say so. Did they get my say-so for all the cameras they use on the platforms? No. I'm aware that even fires that have been put out need the fire brigade to turn up and make sure before people can resume their business, so that's not what irked me. It's the lack of information and double standards.
